Who it is for

Calls, streams and first podcasts.

The Yeti is the mic people reach for when they do not want to think about gear. It plugs into USB, shows up as a normal input device and sounds fuller than a laptop or a headset. The trade-off is the same as for any large condenser: it hears the room as well as you. A quiet space, close placement and the right pickup pattern matter more than anything else you can change.

In three steps

  1. 01Plug it in and pick the Yeti as the input in your sound settings.
  2. 02Set the pattern to cardioid (heart icon) for a single speaker.
  3. 03Run the free mic test here to check level and background noise before your call.

What works

  • +  No driver, plug and play
  • +  Four pickup patterns
  • +  Mute button on the body

What doesn’t

  • –  Picks up the whole room
  • –  Large, heavy stand
