Find the right audio driver.
We link straight to the manufacturer or Microsoft/Apple support pages — never a third-party download. Not sure which chipset you have?
Realtek High Definition Audio
Official download ↗Used by: Most Windows laptops and prebuilt desktops (Dell, HP, Lenovo, Asus, MSI)
Download from your laptop manufacturer's support page when possible — it's tested against your exact hardware, and Realtek's generic driver can occasionally mismatch OEM audio enhancements.
USB headsets & webcam mics (generic UAC)
Official download ↗Used by: Most USB headsets and webcam microphones (Logitech, Jabra, HyperX)
USB audio devices almost always use the generic Windows/macOS class driver — no manufacturer install needed. If it's not detected, check the cable and port before reinstalling anything.
Apple built-in microphone (macOS)
Official download ↗Used by: MacBook, iMac, Mac mini built-in mics
macOS manages built-in audio drivers through system updates — there's no separate driver to install. If the mic misbehaves, check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone first.
Conexant / SmartAudio
Official download ↗Used by: Older Lenovo, Acer, and Toshiba laptops
Conexant was acquired by Synaptics; current downloads route through your laptop manufacturer's own support site.
